RIPLEY'S DENTAL BELIEVE IT OR NOT
WHAT WERE THEY THINKING
WHEN YOU THINK YOU'VE SEEN EVERYTHING YOU'LL CONTINUE TO BE SURPRISED
August 22, 2022
Patient was examined because of a deep pocket on an upper bicuspid.
The tooth had been restored by her dentist several years prior to this visit.
It was obvious on the x-rays that there was a restoration deep on the facial aspect of the tooth. One had to wonder how they got up there to place this.
The tooth was removed
Again I ask the question, how and when and why?
In any event, obviously there was no buccal plate.
Because the patient wanted to get a replacement as soon as possible, and the buccal walls of the defect were facial enough that the implant could sit within the alveolus, it was elected to place an immediate implant.
The area was grafted with Allograft and membrane.
Fortunately the implant integrated.
Ultimately it was restored. Now, 12 years later, we have a healthy successful site.
This is not so much to show the success of implants in this particular environment but question sometimes how decisions are made.
As always I appreciate your feedback.
Yours truly,
Victor M. Sternberg, D.M.D.
